Thursday night’s meeting will be co-hosted by Nicholls’ fellow PC MPP Laurie Scott and members of Chatham-Kent Victim Services. The town hall will also feature a guest speaker who was a victim of human trafficking herself.
Nicholls says the topic is especially important in the Chatham-Kent area because the Hwy. 401 is considered “a major corridor” for human trafficking.
A Chatham judge threw out charges laid against John Robert and Michel Gagnon in February, and now the option to appeal the decision is no more.
MPP Rick Nicholls, who had previously advocated to save the dogs from being euthanized, says it’s a disappointing outcome.
The MPP for Chatham-Kent-Essex is urging the province to get on with the expansion of Hwy. 401 in Chatham-Kent.
Chatham-Kent-Essex MPP Rick Nicholls believes the concrete barrier should be built sooner.
Nicholls points out roughly 43 per cent of the traffic on the 401 between London and Windsor is transport traffic, which he argues cables cannot withstand.
“We have seen where election promises tend to fall by the wayside and I don’t want to see that happen,” says Nicholls. “Tthe concern of many is that once the cable barriers are installed they may just forget about it and say there.”
