ISSUE UPDATE: Dead fish along Lake Erie shoreline
September 5, 2012
Our office has received a number of calls regarding the recent appearance of dead fish on the shores of Lake Erie (Rondeau to Duttona Beach). While the cause of the incident is still unclear we have been in contact with the Ministries of Natural Resources and the Environment, as well as local agencies, for updates.
I spoke to Jim Bradley, the Minister of the Environment and Minister of Natural Resources Michael Gravelle. Their comment to me was very simply that they’re going to be doing some biopsies on the fish and it’s my understanding that some seagulls have been found dead. They’ll find out the cause of death not only for the fish but for the seagulls as well to find out exactly what the real cause was.
We will offer more information as it becomes available. The Ministry of the Environment’s Toll-free number is 1-800-565-4923.
